Getting ready for the 4th Annual Concealed/Revealed Art Auction

Artwork up for bids at the Concealed/Revealed Art AuctionYesterday the Concealed/Revealed committee organized and hung this year’s artwork donations at Freda and Maude. Currently there are 37 works of art on display that will be auctioned off at the end of the month with all procedes going to the YWCA Battered Women’s Task Force of Topeka. I’d imagine we will end up with over 50 donated peices, after all of the artwork is submitted. There is a nice variety of mediums represented: paintings, prints, photographs, glass orbs and vases, ceramics, jewelry and a gourd mask by Dolores Purdy Corcoran.
Stop by Freda and Maude this First Friday to preview all of the artwork up for bid! Also walk down the block to see the Barbara Waterman Peters artwork at The Collective - she always has a great show!

Local Spotlight - Danelle Groth’s Senior Show

Tonight I visited the closing reception for Danelle Groth’s Senior Art Show. Her work is on display in the gallery of Washburn University’s Art Department. She has a wide range of media on exhibit, including: black & white photography, paintings and glasswork - but the majority of the work was photography. Her snapshots featured a variety of different subjects - shots on the farm, shots from Paris, shots from Universal, and portraits.
One of the portraits is particularly captivating - a head and shoulders shot with the model staring right into the camera. The model’s eyes were so powerful . . . like she had a story to tell.
I also really enjoyed the pieces Danelle took on her family farm - that subject matter was particularly dear to my heart as it reminds me of my father.

Local Spotlight - Washburn Senior Art Shows

There are two talented student artists holding their Senior Shows in the gallery at Washburn University in the upcoming weeks.

Danelle Groth on Friday, March 30 from 7 - 9 pm.
Phill Hall on Friday, April 6 from 7 - 9 pm.

I plan on attending both openings - I’m very excited about the work of both artists. Danelle’s black and white photograph is stunning - I’m captivated by her subject matter. Although I haven’t saw much of Phill’s recent work, I remember his plexiglass piece from Washburn’s student show a couple of year back. And his postcard invite had a fabulous self-portait that I’ve got to see in person.
