A Vacation for Inspiration

Brandon and I leave for Chicago tomorrow to celebrate our 5-year wedding anniversary! We plan on spending the majority of our time checking out the arts scene. Here are the top four must see attractions on our list:
1. The Art Institute of Chicago - We’ll get to see La Grande Jatte by Seurat in person . . . it’s going to be huge!
2. Museum of Contemporary Art - There’s a special exhibit called Sympathy for the Devil - The Art of Rock & Roll Since 1967, that’s got to be cool!
3. Wicked the Musical - We’ve got tickets Friday night to see The Untold Story of the Witches of Oz.
4. Shedd Aquarium - I’m especially interested in the Wild Reef Exhibit.

Since I finished hanging my show at the Lawrence library, I’ve been able to put my full focus on my commission pieces again. On Monday of last week I completed a big yellow flower painting (acrylic on plexiglass, of course). Right now I’m about halfway through another piece that has lots of blue flowers.
I’ve also been working on a series of sketches for another commission series.
Next weekend Brandon and I will be going to art auctions on Friday & Saturday night. Friday is the long-awaited Works of Heart auction for the Family Service & Guidance Center at Washburn University. The event will get started at 6pm with cocktails and live music. Dinner will begin at 7:15pm, with live auction starting at 8:30pm.
On Saturday night, we will be going to the Topeka AIDS Project Benefit Auction Gala at the Ramada Inn. The festivities begin with cocktails at 6pm with silent and live auctions. I’ve never been to the Gala before, but I’m excited to go! Josh from J. & Co. Frameshop will also be going - I’m sure we will have some good laughs!

Paradise - Acrylic on PlexiglassHere’s a photo of my most recent painting, Paradise. It is currently on display at J. & Co. Frameshop, but it will also be featured in my upcoming Lawrence show in the Library’s Gallery.
I’ve got 2 big paintings in the works, 2 more lined up when those are finished, and ideas for a whole new show . . . now all I need is a week or two of vacation so I can paint!
