Let’s Take it Outside

I dropped these paintings (Yellow Flower and Blue Flowers) off to their new owners in Overland Park a couple of weekends ago. They kindly sent photos of the  paintings hanging above their patio. You can see a few other photos in the Commission Gallery.
I really love the way that the light shimmers off of the surfaces of the paintings - you can see it better in the close-up shots.

In the Studio - 8.27.2007

It was a rough week, visiting my grandmother for the last time then attending her visitation and funeral. Needless to say, I spent more time than usual in the studio, painting and thinking.
I finished a new commission piece, Blue Flowers. I also spent some time working on a piece full of pink roses. It’s the piece I painted after I got back from my grandmother’s funeral on Friday. The size is somewhat odd, like 30" wide by 6" tall . . . but it will be perfect for the space that’s between the top of the doorway and the ceiling! I’m calling it Flowers for Alice. I’ll post a photo when I get a chance to shoot a good one.

Line Dance is Finished

Line DanceI spent 10 hours painting on Saturday finishing up my commission piece for the American Royal.

The new style is so much more time consuming, I seriously underestimated how long it was going to take me to lay down the background. I was expecting 2-3 hours, but it ended up taking me 7. Then I had to sign and finish the painting.

I met with my framer, Josh Pattie of J & Co Frameshop, bright and early at 7 a.m. on Sunday morning to get Line Dance framed. I took Josh out for breakfast at iHop afterward - it was the least I could do with him accommodating my odd hours.

I delivered my painting to Kate and Megan Evans later that day.

Check out my American Royal Commission Gallery to view the painting in various stages.
